Great Sky Island & Sky Exploration Route

The Great Sky Island is TOTK's starting area; its puzzles teach you the two core abilities—Ascend and Ultrahand. Follow the recommended order to clear it and depart safely.

1. Prep Before Takeoff

After arriving on the Great Sky Island, learn the controls: left stick to move, R for Ascend, hold L to open the Ultrahand menu. Practice both once in the tutorial corridor.

Hearty Fruit ×3: trees on the island; grab some.

Training Stick ×1: found at the island edge; use it to practice Ultrahand.

2. Recommended Progression

Enter the Ultrahand tutorial

Follow the prompt to fuse a stick onto a shield with Ultrahand and understand the combination logic.

Unlock Ascend

Interact with the designated altar to gain the ability; afterward you can rise through any ceiling surface.

Collect sky materials

Gather Zonai charges and battery parts along the floating slabs to seed your vehicles later.

Trigger departure

After the main story node, glide off the island's edge from the launch point into Hyrule.

3. First Thing After Landing

Prioritize unlocking the nearest Skyview Tower to reveal the map. Save the sky charges for vehicles; don't spend them yet.

Tip

If you drift off course, open the map after landing and fast-travel to the nearest tower instead of trekking.

FAQ

Ascend won't activate?+

Make sure you unlocked it at the altar; the target ceiling must be "attachable"—pure water or special materials won't work.

Must I grab everything before leaving?+

No, but grab at least one Zonai charge; you'll need it for vehicles.

Stuck in the tutorial corridor?+

Most stalls come from a badly fused part—reopen the Ultrahand menu and confirm the part snapped before confirming.
